The Little Swim
Welcome to the Little Swim! Last year our youngest competitor was an eight year old girl from Port Isaac and her time around our Big Swim was very impressive. We have had a lot of interest from children who are really keen to take part, however the Big Swim is a little too far! So this year we have decided to hold an event especially for those unable to swim a mile, The Little Swim at The Big Swim.
We are limiting The Little Swim to 50 swimmers of 13 and under. The cost is £5 and we ask that each swimmer raises a minimum of £10 sponsorship. Sponsor forms will be issued immediately following booking.
We plan and organise the swim with the highest standards of safety to enable competitors to enjoy this fantastic swim whilst raising money for good causes. It’s a rare chance to get to swim in Port Isaac bay!
Markers will line the course, safety boats and lifeboats will be in close reach for anyone who may need to be taken out of the water. Medical assistance is on standby at all times.
In the case of The Little Swim there will be a short course marked out (approx. 200 yards) within the harbour of Port Isaac. We ask that every child be able to swim without the aid of floatation devices and without parent supervision. If anyone has any special requirements or medical conditions it must be declared in full confidence with Sarah Coates before registration into the race.
You are required to arrive for registration at Port Gaverne Beach between 9.30 and 11.30am where our team of staff will welcome you.
Parking is available in a farmers field a three minute walk from the registration point on the beach. The car park is clearly marked from all roads that lead into Port Gaverne.
The race starts at 16.00 prompt and it is essential that every swimmer has been given a number, safety visibility hat and sign a registration form before the briefing.
A safety briefing will take place at 15.45 by our safety team on Port Isaac beach. Please make sure you leave yourself enough time to park, walk to beach having completed your registration form that morning.
Each swimmer must attend registration in person on the beach from 15.00. Remember registration CLOSES at 15.45pm.
Wet suits are not essential but we encourage our swimmers to wear one. This helps with buoyancy and warmth. You can rent one from many of the surf shops in the major surf resorts nearby.
The finish line will be clearly marked at the beach in Port Isaac. Swimmers must exit the water and run between the flags where their time will be registered. You must cross the finish line to complete the race. You will be asked by one of our time keepers to shout out your number as you cross the line, however for those who don’t remember it will be clearly marked on your safety hat for time keepers to see. You can rest immediately on the beach and catch your breath and watch the remainder swimmers come in. However we advise you drink and eat a snack of the snack given to all Little Swim competitors and keep yourselves warm.
Little Swim certificates will be given to all competitors.
Encouragement from the spectators, cheering family and friends and hopefully good weather will all add to this experience. The day doesn’t end there, we hope you will relax and enjoy the days activities in Port Isaac and The Big Party in Port Gaverne.
To avoid disappointment, book your place now!
