The Triathlon
We know some of you love a challenge so we are hosting a fantastic Triathlon with a Cornish twist. The event will include a one mile wild swim from Port Gaverne to Port Isaac, a run to Port Quin (distance 5 miles) and a 2 and 3/4 mile kayak from Port Quin back to Port Gaverne. No bicycles in this race!

We ask that you bring your own one man kayak but if not, we are currently trying to arrange for a Kayak company to supply us on the day or at least have them available for rent.
We are limiting places to 100 entries. Tickets cost £38 and we ask that you try and raise a minimum of £100 in sponsorship. If you are local to Port Isaac and Port Gaverne we are asking that you try and raise a minimum of £50 (as we appreciate that you will be asking all the same people to sponsor you). If you raise £100 or more (or in the case of locals £75 or more) you will get a free ticket/beer tokens to The BIg Party in the evening.
We ask that sponsor forms and money raised be collected and handed in at registration on the day. Any cheques to be made payable to ‘The Big Swim Cornwall’. We are not taking any entries on the day of the Triathlon.
We plan and organise the race with the highest standards of safety to enable competitors to enjoy this unique triathlon whilst raising money for good causes.
Markers will line the course, safety boats and lifeboats will be in close reach for anyone who may need to be taken out of the water Safety hats must be worn at all times during the swim and the kayak. Medical assistance is on standby at all times.
We ask that every swimmer be able to swim one mile, be able to run five and kayak competently as this course covers wild terrains and unpredictable sea and weather conditions. If anyone has any special requirements or medical conditions it must be declared in full confidence with Sarah Coates before registration into the race.
You are required to arrive for registration at a designated location (to be confirmed) between 9.30 and 11.30am where our team of staff will welcome you. You need to drop your kayak and paddle with us so that they can be transported on your behalf to Port Quin and your trainers/water bottles/running clothes, which will be taken to Port Isaac for when you exit the swim.
A box will be given to you on arrival at registration for you to place your trainers and other running equipment inside. This will be taken to Port Isaac and will become your storage for wetsuits and googles after exiting the water. This box will then be transported to Port Gaverne for when you finish the race.
A safety briefing will take place at 13.45 by our safety team at the start line. However we ask that you are check in your dry clothes no later than 13.15 at Port Gaverne Beach. We advise that you arrive no later than 13.00 in order to be ready to start the race.
Changing space will be available at Port Gaverne along with a hot drink and water. Your dry clothes and belongings will be waiting for you at Port Gaverne for when you have completed the race.
Parking is available in a farmers field a three minute walk from the beach itself. The car park is clearly marked from all roads that lead into Port Gaverne.
The Triathlon will start at 14.00 prompt on Port Gaverne beach. It is essential that every competitor register in person, has been given a number, safety visibility hat, an electric timing tag and sign a registration form by 11.30am in the morning to be able to race.
Please make sure you leave yourself enough time to drop off your equipment, complete your registration, park at Port Gaverne and walk to the beach in time for the safety briefing. There will be food and refreshments and our sports masseur, Conrad (Kernow Fitness) at Port Gaverne from 9.30am.
Wet suits are not essential but we encourage you to wear one. This helps with buoyancy and warmth. You can rent one from many of the surf shops in the major surf resorts nearby.
Encouragement from the spectators along the sea wall, cheering family and friends and hopefully good weather will all add to this experience. The day doesn’t end there, we hope you will relax and enjoy the days activities in Port Isaac.
To avoid disappointment, book your place now!
